Quality on Time

How Systems Engineers Learned to Meet ‘Impossible’ Deadlines

Thursday, 27th August 2020 | 20:30-21:30 (CET)

In this free 1 hour webinar, we will see how the Quality on Time approach suggested by Niels Malotaux helped a space project of some 40 members to deliver successfully one day early, rather than the expected one year late, saving the organization at least 6M€.

The people of this project were all very seasoned Systems Engineers, who missed only one capability: how to deliver on time. They complained about impossible deadlines set by management, but on the other hand being well aware that there was a fixed budget provided by ESA and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, and that there was no more. Seeing the problem, but not knowing how to fix it. The good thing was that everyone in the project was open for learning how to overcome this problem.

In this presentation we will show how we taught these Systems Engineers that we should not only design the product, but as much design the project. By showing engineers that planning and scheduling is a design activity, suddenly they got the message, and with a few weeks of coaching they understood, and ever since didn’t miss any deadline anymore, eventually delivering right on time.

If you are interested how to meet your deadlines, while still delivering the best possible quality, this presentation gives you some insight. If you’re then still interested to learn how to deliver even better Quality on Time, you can sign-up for the course in November.

Who Should Attend?

Anyone who feels the pain of not getting things done on time, and who wants to do something about it. If you don’t mind, don’t bother. But if you do mind, this presentation may show you that we can do more about it than you ever thought possible, which we then could elaborate in the November course.

Niels Malotaux

Niels Malotaux is an independent Project Coach and expert in optimizing project performance. He has some 40 year experience in designing electronic and software systems, at Delft University, in the Dutch Army, at Philips Electronics and 20 years leading a systems design company.

Since 1998 he devotes his expertise to helping projects and organizations to deliver Quality On Time: delivering what the customer needs, when they need it, to enable customer success. To this effect, Niels developed an approach for effectively teaching Evolutionary Project Management (Evo) Methods, Requirements Engineering, Review and Inspection techniques, as well as Reliable Embedded Systems Design, and how to achieve Zero Defects.

However, his approach is particularly very pragmatically adapting to the circumstances. Since 2001, he taught and coached well over 400 projects in 40+ organizations in the Netherlands, Belgium, China, Germany, Ireland, India, Israel, Japan, Poland, Romania, Serbia, South Africa, the UK and the US, which led to a wealth of experience in which approaches work better and which work less well in practice.
